The Ice White house project Hampstead was designed for a couple who wanted a Miami style look complete with illuminated palm trees in the garden. The client visits Miami twice a year and loves the pure white interiors and dramatic lighting schemes and he wanted a very white pure interior overall but with some dramatic areas such as the cinema room and master bathroom where blacks and dramatic velvets in blue were introduced.
The clients also wanted a very dramatic lighting scheme so that the stark white interior could be warmed up in the evening or on a cold winter day. He also wanted a unique chandelier to highlight the helical bespoke dramatic staircase and wanted us to design something that really showed off the shape.
QMC transformed this run down mock Tudor house into a contemporary state of the art modern dwelling. This was achieved by extending the property at ground level to form large open plan living spaces and realigning the roof to create a magnificent master bedroom. The exterior of the house was detudored by recladding the walls in oak. The house has 5 bedrooms, a cinema room, external swimming pool, astro turf football pitch, feature garden, specialist AV & security system, poured resin floors & ensuites to all bathrooms.
The interior of the house is enhanced by maximising daylight in the deep planned living & dining rooms by incorporating large glazed sections of roof and clear full sized sliding glass doors. The gas feature fire incorporating glass and pure white stone along with a purist bespoke corian kitchen and poured resin floors throughout create a unique minimal modernist space. The Dining room boasts a large feature fish tank, bespoke pewter dining table and corian & crushed glass bar. As with all properties first impressions last and to ensure this happened QMC incorporated a bespoke helical stairs into the hallway with a glass floor overhead. A water wall was introduced to allow a view from the hall through to the back garden.
The house is white throughout with the exception of a few key areas, which tend towards the dark side. These areas act as a deep contrast to the house as a whole. The main room that falls into this category is the cinema room, which is a cocoon where everything is blacked out. This sensory deprivation focuses you on the main purpose of the room.
The entire house and the external areas are all connected to the central AV & Security control. Central audio throughout the house & garden, automated blinds, cinema room, load bearing pool cover, automated gates, mood light settings and automated sliding doors.
QMC designed a lighting scheme to incorporate maximum mood & colour, which highlight the purist white of the interior. Colour changing LED’s, fibre optic star ceilings, Fibre optic bespoke chandeliers & feature lighting in the fish tank, swimming pool and garden take the internal mood lighting externally.
To create the overall interior we used resin for the floors throughout in both white and black this gave a purist finish with no joints anywhere. We also worked with corian for the kitchen and stairs again allowing for a very sleek, pure look throughout. All the storage was bespoke designed and many units are floating to create a very modern feel in the space echoing the dramatic corian block kitchen. We designed a dramatic fireplace using white corian and white stones and glass to create a snug area where the clients could read and relax making sure that the glass allowed for the view to continue through to the swimming pool in the garden.
The helical stairs is set off by the bespoke fibre optic chandelier where we played with the shape and the heights creating a drop chandelier with crystals attached casting glowing shimmery light across the hall. A water wall also allows a view through the living room to the garden below and side led lighting allows for changes of colour throughout the water. Pop art chairs and a dramatic bespoke wine room in vibrant pink add warmth to the overall sleek white space.
The cinema room on the other hand we created in blacks and luxury velvets bespoke designing love seats and long banquette seating as well as fibre-optic star ceilings and colour changing fittings. The walls are textured black wallpaper and the floor a luxury black wool carpet the whole space being a sanctuary from everyday life where the clients can unwind in the evenings together.
The client’s master bathroom has a massive egg shaped corian bath which we illuminated with fibre-optic set into the floor casting dramatic colours up the bath as well as creating a massive wet room area.
